The Inn at Sundance Mountain Resort, Utah

Fettle's considered revamp of The Inn at Sundance Mountain Resort brings a renewed clarity to Redford’s founding vision...

At the foot of Utah’s Mount Timpanogos, The Inn at Sundance Mountain Resort introduces a new chapter for the alpine retreat shaped by Robert Redford’s original vision. Designed by London– and Los Angeles-based interior architecture studio Fettle, the 63 room hotel continues the principles Redford established decades ago, where protection of the landscape and a connection to creativity remain central to the experience.

Fettle’s design looks to the resort’s earliest days in the 1960s, when a small collection of timber cabins first appeared across the wooded hillside. That sense of privacy and closeness to nature remains intact. The Inn follows the natural slope of the land, preserving views of the mountain while reflecting the scale and material character of the original buildings. Timber, stone, and hand-finished surfaces establish continuity, alongside subtle references to Frank Lloyd Wright, whose architectural thinking influenced Redford during the resort’s formative years.

Inside, the interiors reflect the many influences that have shaped Sundance over time. References to Native American heritage sit alongside the Scottish background of the Stewart family, while design cues from the 1970s and 1980s acknowledge the period when Redford was most actively shaping the resort’s identity. The reception space nods to this atmosphere through reclaimed timber floors, a tartan-fronted desk, and a large stone fireplace. Nearby, a small library offers a quiet setting framed by crafted joinery and carefully selected objects.

A footbridge spanning the North Fork Provo River leads to the second wing, defined by art. A gallery presents rotating exhibitions, while the Living Room centres on a communal dining table and open kitchen, complemented by stained-glass details from Holdman Studios. Throughout, custom pieces sit alongside vintage furniture, balancing Western references with mid-century influence.

The 63 guest rooms maintain the same direction, with Ultrasuede wall finishes, window daybeds, and uninterrupted views across forest, stream, and mountain. The Inn strengthens Sundance Mountain Resort’s original identity, extending Redford’s vision into the present with clarity and respect.

With ski-in/ski-out accommodations in winter, jaw dropping views year-round, and rustic luxury, The Inn at Sundance Mountain Resort blahahahah
