Hôtel Saint-Georges, Megève

A five-star return for Hôtel Saint-Georges, shaped by storytelling, intrinsic detail and a contemporary approach to alpine design...

Reopened in the centre of Megève, Hotel Saint-Georges returns as a thoughtfully reimagined alpine retreat with a new visual language and razor-sharp focus. Set within a traditional chalet, the five-star hotel has been reimagined by Paris-based studio Chapitre Six, with creative direction by British artist and designer Luke Edward Hall, whose approach frames the property as a modern fairytale rooted in mountain life.

Hall’s redesign draws on the spirit of classic alpine houses, using colour, pattern and ornament to build a narrative that unfolds across four floors, each treated as a chapter in its own right. Across 29 rooms and five suites, palettes shift with the seasons: deep reds, sunlit yellows, forest greens and sky blues reference winter intensity, summer brightness and the surrounding landscape. Rooms range from intimate classics to generous suites that feel closer to private mountain apartments, complete with hand-painted murals by Pauline Leyravaud, vintage-inspired furniture and richly detailed fabrics.

Design details are thoughtful. Edelweiss carpets, patterned headboards and sculptural desks echo mountain forms, while bathrooms vary in character through hand-crafted tiles, veined marbles, antique-style basins and aged fittings. Ortigia bath products complete the experience, reinforcing the hotel’s focus on comfort and atmosphere. Several connecting rooms make the property well suited to families, whether visiting for ski season or summer hikes.

At the heart of the hotel sits Le Trappeur, a bistro-style dining room celebrating French culinary tradition. Wood-panelled walls and a fireplace set the tone for generous, familiar dishes served with care, from duck foie gras and scallop carpaccio to Chateaubriand with house fries and Savoyard crozets. The adjoining Piano Bar shifts mood throughout the day, moving from a calm daytime lounge to a lively evening space framed by velvet curtains, brass detailing and live music.

“My vision for the hotel was one of romance, colour and eccentricity,” says Hall. “Inside, a mix of fringed velvet sofas in jewel tones, bespoke floral carpets, antiques and old paintings set the scene.”

With a spa and winter activities completing the offering, Hotel Saint-Georges presents a refreshed take on alpine hospitality that values character, narrative and a strong sense of place.
