A sister concept to Philadelphia‘s much loved Wm. Mulherin’s Sons, ‘Mulherin’s Pizzeria’ has opened on the ground floor of The Girard, an urban oasis in the city’s Midtown Village that is also home to extended stay design apartments, ROOST East Market.

Taking cues from Wm. Mulherin’s Sons’ original essence, and designed by Method Co.’s in-house design firm Method Studios in collaboration with Stokes Architecture + Design, Mulherin’s Pizzeria highlights Italian-influenced wood-fired cuisine, focusing on the smokiness and char of the wood burning oven.

Helmed by Chef Sean McPaul, diners can expect inventive pies, handmade pastas, and vegetable-forward small plates alongside house-made soft serves for dessert, signature draft and craft cocktails and a curated list of primarily Italian wines. From Scarlet O’Hara, featuring marinara, nduja, bagna cauda, parsley, pecorino and lemon to the Spicy Jawn, an ode to all things Philadelphia featuring pepperoni, hot copa, caciocavallo, sharp provolone, long hots and tomato, customers will enjoy creative wood-fired delights complemented by thoughtful beverages.

Highlighting the heritage of the original Fishtown location, the space features a crisp aesthetic with a restrained approach to materials and finishes. In its new contemporary East Market setting, the open kitchen acts as a focal point with the wood-fired pizza oven the star of the show. Similar design details to the original Wm. Mulherin’s Sons, such as saddle leather banquettes, slotted benches, and hand clipped mosaic tile flooring, coincide with the new interiors layered with reclaimed maple wood floors, marble accents and honed soapstone tabletops, while custom wallpaper by visual artist Stacey Rozich takes influences from the same whimsical whiskey-inspired characters and scenes inspired by William Mulherin’s legacy, and adds a pop of colour to the predominantly neutral palette.

Outdoors, a sturdy awning crafted in a green and off-white striped fabric provides year-round dining in the courtyard surrounded with deep forest green planters, while a neon sign is set to anchor the corner of the tree-lined Ludlow Street. A great addition to the already bustling East Market neighbourhood, Mulherin’s Pizzeria continues Method Co.’s Midas touch on hospitality projects.
