Located on Jefferson Ave. in the Church Hill neighbourhood of Richmond, Virginia, Emerald Lounge embodies a modern take on a tropical escape with subtle nods to the bars of 1920s Cuba and 1970s Los Angeles.
Designed by award-winning branding and interior design agency Campfire & Co., the tiki bar combines dark and moody aesthetics with mid-century Palm Springs vibes providing the perfect ambience to enjoy crafted cocktails made primarily from rum, agave and brandy. Emitting serious swag, Emerald Lounge arrives from the team behind beloved The Jasper, and provides Richmond’s revellers with an escape worth seeking out, the hip bar appealing to individuals, couples and groups looking for anything from a quick drink to start the evening, to a place to see out the night in style.
A palette of deep ocean blues, emerald greens, terracotta and mustard yellow complements the rich wood tones, ebony floors, rattan and brass details along with pops of pink. A theme of flora and fauna can be seen in the bold, statement wallpapers, upholstery, and oversized petal pendants. Custom design details such as porthole ship doors and a suspended hammerhead shark hark to life at sea, while lime-wash walls and a cluster of fishing basket lights transport you straight to Havana.
Some of the space is shared with neighbouring Slurp! Ramen, meaning Campfire & Co. were tasked with identifying the best location for dual-use functions like the kitchen and restrooms while also making sure the two concepts had completely unique identities. As such, shades of yellow, bamboo fixtures, and a bold crane patterned wallpaper create the ideal middle ground between a Japanese-inspired ramen shop and a tropical rum bar.
A tropical paradise for seafarers and landlubbers alike, The Emerald Lounge is an exciting new nightlife proposition for the Virginia capital, one of the United States’ oldest major cities.
