Situated in the heart of Girona’s Barri Vell, a former 18th century palace has been converted into a stunning design-led hotel where travellers and locals can converge to enjoy a series of public spaces, courtyards, and enticing bedrooms.
Designed by Barcelona-based studio El Equipo Creativo with an aim to “create a sense of high luxury minus the pretensions. To respect the original architecture of course, but be fresh, elegant, surprising and at times a little disruptive”, Palau Fugit is a destination property as charming as the Catalan city that it occupies. Using the ‘two Gironas’ as their creative starting point, Palau Fugit unfolds in two principal parts: the first the original palauet, the second a building named the Pavelló, an annexe that takes shape with a modern, rational approach. Both are connected by a stunning heritage terrace also known as ‘the heart’ of the hotel.
For the guest rooms, El Equipo Creativo looked to create a ‘feminine’ presence throughout, recreating the warm and eclectic ambience of a noble family nest. They reimagined the decor of the fin de siècle through a prism of contemporary design and art, while paying attention to details, materials and textures, to create a rich visual experience throughout.
Each bedroom is unique, accentuating Girona’s astounding natural and architectural beauty, with unmatched views of the city and the Palau’s most exclusive spaces. From the Pati Garden, a 22 square metre room, to the Biggy Palau, the most spacious of the rooms with high beamed ceilings, a kingsized bed and balcony, guests can unwind in luxury and harmony knowing that these are the Palau’s most exclusive spaces.
A range of eating and drinking options are available, starting in La Placeta, which is a place designed for loving life with a good coffee or wine and some tapas. Gipsy is a sophisticated spot where cocktails and craft beers can be enjoyed, as is El Terrat, a seasonal rooftop terrace with the added bonus of breathtaking vistas over this breathtaking city. Casa Heras, meanwhile, is a Mediterranean restaurant combining tradition and modernity, serving up fresh local and high-quality products. Open from breakfast through to dinner, this convivial spot is led by chef César Calfa and is a wonderful place to take time out and enjoy great dishes.
A fine addition to the hospitality scene of this historic city, Hotel Palau Fugit is one of the region’s most beautifully designed hotels, and truly a destination in its own right.
