Where does one go to find a Japanese bath ladle in Notting Hill? This is a question we’ve often found ourselves wondering, and we can now tell you the answer: Native & Co. Although some of the products are — how can we put this? — non-essential, they are as much about the craftsmanship and aesthetics as pure function. Shop owners Sharon Jo-Yun Hung and Chris Yoshiro Green source their wares directly from artisanal makers in Japan and Taiwan, and they all display that wonderful look specific to the region which would look equally fine in a posh W11 pad or somewhere mere mortals could afford (The North).
Sharon (who is Taiwanese) and Chris (half Japanese) started their business after graduating in product design from Central Saint Martins. The pair are responsible for the whole operation from interior design to graphics and even photography, plus they design and make their own items for sale here. The core principles are simplicity, beautiful yet subtle detailing, and the use of intrinsically attractive materials. At Native & Co. you’ll find a super range of homeware, kitchen and tableware (including some particularly nice kettles and teapots), bathroom products, bags, accessories and stationery.
