Located in Buenos Aires AHORA is a gastronomic proposal with comfort food at its core. Open from breakfast through to dinner, start your day with a selection of toasts, yogurt, eggs, pancakes and a coffee, and end it with larger dishes including tacos, chicken caesar salad, falafel and that Argentina classic, Milanese.
Designed by architecture and interior design studio Ohio, the project was approached by taking sustainability, hybrid life, sensory stimulation, outdoor contact and integral well-being into account. Founded by Buenos Aires-based architect Fela Navia, the studio looked to “redefine the conventional, focusing on transforming materials through concrete experimentation or by using them in unexpected ways.” Always utilising what is in existence and can be preserved, minimising environmental impact is a huge part of the studio’s ethos.
The space is raw and industrial in appearance with steel and concrete used extensively throughout. Wooden shelving adorned with books and plants adds a more homely feel as does the neon lighting that displays the restaurant’s name. Pops of the colour cherry red can be found on the curved bar in the window, on the table tops and along the walls, which appears to reflect across the room when the natural light hits it.
By request of the establishment, the kitchen is shut off from diners eyes. To comply with such a specification, Ohio studio designed a structure that houses both the kitchen and its necessary services. The completion of this construction created a play of natural lights and reflections that interact with the textures of the environment. Instead of opting for conventional glass, polycarbonate was arranged at various angles achieving an fascinating texture that blends with the reflections.
The perfect place to watch the world go by with a good coffee (or something stronger) and great food, AHORA can be found at Nuñez 3802 and is a hyper-hip spot to enjoy whatever the time of day or night.
