The Hoxton, Vienna

Vienna's distinctive design heritage is paid homage, as The Hoxton arrive at a modernist landmark building in the Austrian capital...

Mid-century Austrian flair paired with The Hoxton’s distinctive warm and layered design aesthetics form the style for the design hotel brand’s latest opening. With 196 guest rooms, a Cuban-inspired rooftop bar with pool and outstanding views, a Parisian bistro with NYC edge and a basement cocktail bar, The Hoxton, Vienna is situated in a marble-clad modernist landmark building and is, as always, as much for locals as it is for travellers; a playful spot from which to introduce guests to the less conventional side of what is often considered a traditional European city.

With design by by Ennismore’s AIME Studios, interiors are inspired both by Carl Appel’s mid-century aesthetic and the iconic Wiener Werkstätte movement. The architectural heritage of the Appel-designed 1950s building served as a key starting point for the hotel’s interior design scheme, and has been carefully preserved and celebrated. The double-height lobby is framed by the original travertine-clad walls and terrazzo flooring, and dressed with ruby red sofas, statement 1950s-inspired armchairs, lush greenery and mid-century lighting, while a theatrical back-lit staircase to the rear of the space adds a touch of drama to what was formerly the Austrian Chamber of Commerce.

The guest rooms range from the classic Hoxton categories of Shoebox, Snug, Cosy and Roomy, each nodding to early 20th-century Austrian design, from the geometric patterned curtains influenced by iconic Wiener Werkstätte fabrics, to the statement ruched headboards inspired by renowned architect Adolf Loos’s inimitable style. Calming spaces to recharge in, each feature local photography and 1950s-inspired art, while the bathrooms are adorned with cool blue or glossy black tiles, warm wooden trims, grey terrazzo tiled floors and chrome fixtures.

Firmly laying roots in the immediate vicinity, The Hoxton has teamed up with local partners to showcase the best of the area. From Hox Gallery, a dedicated space to showcase local emerging talent, gracing the walls of the grand central staircase, to collaborating with PINTU DESIGN for the dog beds and dog bowls that guests checking in with furry friends will need, establishing long-lasting relationships is always at the forefront of this ever innovative brand.

Food, drink and fun comes courtesy of Bouvier, a relaxed all-day modern bistro that comfortably straddles the old and the new with an elevated menu of produce-led, New York meets European food with creativity and sass. Salon Paradise is an underground cocktail bar that captures the essence of the creative, free-spirited and experimental Beat Generation, a great spot where guests can sip expertly crafted cocktails and soak up the atmosphere with live music programming and a vintage 1920s Hoffmann Konzertklavier piano, and finally Cayo Coco brings big tropical vibes to the rooftop, a fun and relaxed terrace with a pool, open-air dining, and entrancing views over the city and out to the Austrian Alps. Filled with rattan furniture and great energy, head up for all your cocktail and good time needs.

Located in the capital’s 3rd district with some of the city’s best design and art schools and museums as neighbours, The Hoxton, Vienna is a stunning new hotel for the creative Austrian capital.
