FOC Sentosa, Singapore

Life's a beach for the Catalans transposing Mediterranean vibes to Singapore's swanky Sentosa island...

Following on from the success of FOC restaurant — which saw Michelin-starred Catalan chef Nandu Jubany team up with Barcelona design studio lagranja to create a Mediterranean inspired restaurant in Singapore — the partnership has been resumed once again; this time on the shores of Sentosa, at Palawan beach.

FOC Sentosa Palawan Beach, Nandu Jubany and lagranja

The theme here on the swanky island resort of Sentosa is of a combined Mediterranean beach bar with the Singaporean lifestyle; FOC Sentosa the perfect fusion of Barcelona’s lively Barceloneta neighbourhood and the city-state’s Marina Bay area. Part solid and part pergola, the roof lends a fisherman’s village feel and creates a summery sense of space.

Split into two modules in order to retain two large trees, the building is connected by a covered walkway, respecting the existing nature of its surroundings and bringing with it a tropical feel that completes the Mediterranean/Southeast Asian juxtaposition. A small outdoor pool offers a focal point with ample hammocks and sun loungers for guests to sip on a crafted cocktail under the Singapore sun or after a long dinner of sharing plates; sampling the best of light Mediterranean tapas, fresh fish and barbecued meat.
