Making Waves

The Sine Collection brings a ripple of applause from fans of simple furniture...

If you think the best ideas are the simplest you are going to love the Sine Collection, a collaboration between Kyuhyung Cho and Erik Olovsson from Sweden – the home of simplicity in furniture. The pair are graphic designers at heart (remember Erik’s Designbuss?), and the clothes hanging system is organised around the aesthetically pleasing sine wave. The shape also serves the purpose of separating the clothes at uniform intervals so they don’t get too squashed, and everything looks a bit neater. Cho and Olovsson took the idea from the abundance of waves that surround us each day that go unnoticed – the electromagnetic forces and sound waves – and set out to make the invisible visible.

Central to the Sine Collection is a duality of form and materials – thin, light, metallic frames anchored with heavy, thick marble bases that can be colour-coded to blend or contrast. There are three different types of steel hanger; they are designed specifically for clothes, belts and scarves, and accessories, and each has been created with an eye on space optimisation.
