Offcuts to objets d'art, the Dutch studio repurposing waste materials destined for the landfill...

Caught between a rock and a hard place, the waste from the natural stone industry is vast — and, what is not reused in other industries, can often find its way expensively shipped out to landfill sites. The worst bit? They’re often beautiful in their own right. Rotterdam-based designers Earnest Studio recognise the sad irony of this situation in their series of bowls, Fragment.

Using these offcuts, in their original shapes, textures and colours, Earnest Studio subtly add functional elements; one man’s rubbish, another’s objet d’art. From vide-poche (that’s a posh word for coin tray) to fruit bowl, serveware to desk tidy — low-key repurposing has never looked so good.
