FENIX Mayfair, London

FENIX arrives in Mayfair with a suitably swish interior shaped by Greek island craft, phoenix mythology, and Aegean light...

Studio WYZE has completed the interiors for FENIX Mayfair, bringing the acclaimed modern Greek restaurant to London following its 2023 debut in Manchester. Conceived for Permanently Unique Group, the Mayfair opening introduces a design-led dining destination shaped by the relationship between food, light and space.

Set behind a 1920s Portland stone façade, the 4,500 sq ft restaurant accommodates 166 covers across a single floor, with Studio WYZE drawing inspiration from the Greek islands and the mythology of the phoenix – a fabulous bird associated with the worship of the sun – and a nod to the gradual shift from day to evening service.

A sequence of sculptural plaster arches guides diners through the restaurant, subtly changing atmosphere along the way. The bar begins in deeper, more nocturnal tones before opening into the brighter dining room, where natural materials and a restrained palette establish warmth. Existing windows were retained and maximised, allowing daylight to animate the interior from street level inward.

At the heart of the space sits an open kitchen and signature open-fire grill conceived as a focal point. Executive Chef Zisis Giannourous and Head Chef Angelos Togias present contemporary interpretations of Aegean cooking, with the layout ensuring the energy of preparation remains visible throughout.

Where daylight fades deeper into the plan, Studio WYZE collaborated with INTO Lighting to create a wall of Greek decorative bricks illuminated by colour-shifting light, mirroring the rhythm of the sun as the restaurant moves from lunch through to late evening. Craftsmanship defines the wider interior with decorative breeze blocks sourced from Greece, dual plaster finishes inspired by Mykonos, Italian parquet flooring, bespoke furniture from Portugal, and a bronze feather bar front.

Speaking about the project, Studio WYZE co-founder Christina Arbenz explains: “The design explores rhythm and restraint. Set within a heritage building, we allowed the existing architecture to inform the spatial approach, creating a series of interconnected spaces rather than separate rooms.”

Balancing Mediterranean ease with Mayfair sophistication, FENIX Mayfair is a fittingly lavish affair sure to be at ease in this part of town.
