Woodinville wine country shapes every detail at The SOMM Hotel & Spa, an immersive hospitality experience rooted to its terroir...

Sixteenfifty Creative Intelligence has unveiled The SOMM Hotel & Spa, Autograph Collection, a new-build boutique retreat in the heart of Woodinville, Washington. The agency led the project from naming and brand concept through interior design, visual identity, and operational strategy for the 164-room property just outside Seattle.

Set within the 20-acre Harvest development, The SOMM draws on the surrounding vineyards, riverbanks and forests, translating the region’s craft culture into a design that balances raw materiality with considered refinement. Wood, steel, leather and glass form the core palette, their textures layered to mirror the contrasts found in wine; smooth and structured alongside earthy and tactile.

“Its name, The SOMM, reflects both our inspiration and our intent,” says Sixteenfifty Creative Intelligence founder Rob Wells. “Like a sommelier’s role, our design goal was to guide guests on a journey of depth and discovery through the richness of Woodinville, crafting perfect pairings that make life sweeter.”

The lobby introduces this philosophy with warmth and a touch of whimsy. A cork-clad reception desk sits before an illuminated wall of wine bottles, while a patinaed metal fireplace is a wonderful spot to enjoy a tipple. Sculptural touches, including the hotel’s mascot Sommsquatch, add lighthearted character without undermining the carefully curated interiors.

Dining spaces continue the narrative. Bin 47, the hotel’s all-day restaurant and bar, combines reclaimed timber, exposed trusses and deconstructed cork ceilings with polished stone and metal accents. Panoramic windows and an outdoor terrace connect diners to the surrounding landscape. Above, The Shed rooftop bar references agricultural structures in raw wood and steel softened by greenery, offering views over Mount Rainier and the valley.

The Blending Room lets guests act as vintners, with marble counters and glass partitions putting the craft of custom blending on display against rough stone walls. Guest rooms and suites carry the theme through subtle gestures including mossy green ceilings, merlot-toned drapery and wallcoverings that reflect the Pacific Northwest’s flora and forest canopy. The Presidential Suite amplifies the narrative, pairing wood-beamed ceilings and a weathering steel fireplace with floor-to-ceiling wine displays and sculptural kitchen and bathroom elements.

Vin de Spa completes the experience, combining warm timber, terracotta tones and layered textures for a grounded, restorative retreat.

The SOMM Hotel & Spa demonstrates Sixteenfifty’s commitment to authenticity and storytelling, translating the spirit of Woodinville wine country into an experience that feels deeply rooted to its terroir.
