MasaHouse, Mexico City: a composed interplay of industrial clarity and crafted warmth, with design treated as part of the menu...

MasaHouse is a new Mexico City restaurant by Estereotomia Architects where food and design are given equal billing. The project brings together steel, wood, glass, and light in a space that offers diners an experience shaped as much by its surroundings as by what arrives at the table.

From the outside, MasaHouse sets the tone immediately. Steel metal wall plates form a crisp, modern façade, offset by natural wood planks that bring contrast and depth. The exterior is bold, offering a clear sense of what lies beyond the entrance: a restaurant rooted in modern design and grounded by natural elements. Inside, the palette remains restrained. Steel structures run throughout the space while black glass walls introduce a sense of drama by amplifying reflections.

Natural wood plays an essential role in tempering the industrial framework. Used across floors, furniture, and detailing, it adds warmth and familiarity, ensuring the space feels inviting rather than austere. The result is an interior that feels composed and comfortable, encouraging guests to settle in and stay awhile.

Lighting is central to the MasaHouse experience. Custom-designed luminaires, known as AYOTLI, are handcrafted using wood canvas and finished with gold leaf, silver leaf, and copper leaf hearts. These sculptural pieces introduce character and artistry, casting a soft glow that enhances the mood without overpowering the architecture. Carefully positioned throughout the restaurant, the lighting allows the space to evolve naturally from daytime dining to evening service.

MasaHouse succeeds through balance. Estereotomia Architects have created a restaurant that feels contemporary yet timeless, structured yet relaxed. Steel and glass provide strength and clarity, while wood and light bring warmth and intimacy. Together, they form a dining destination that appeals not only to the palate, but to those who appreciate thoughtful design done with restraint and purpose.

All of that before we even mention the restaurant’s decadent speakeasy, Harakiri … sshhhhhh!!!
