The Monteleone has opened in the hills between Umbria and Tuscany, set above the village of Monteleone d’Orvieto where olive groves, medieval walls and open countryside define the landscape. The 17 room boutique hotel is conceived as a slow-living retreat, designed to sit quietly within its rural surroundings and offer a considered sense of pause.
Occupying a restored 19th century residence, the building retains the character of its original form while introducing a restrained contemporary language. Weathered stone, raw plaster, iron detailing and hand-finished timber are paired with soft, pared-back furnishings, allowing the fabric of the building to remain present throughout.
Designed in collaboration with Rome-based studio STUDIOTAMAT, four signature suites — including the Superior Garden Suite and Deluxe Serra Suite — function as compact self-contained environments shaped by proportion, texture and craft. Six rooms open onto private gardens, while the Signature Suite includes a standalone bathtub and dedicated relaxation area.
“Wellness at The Monteleone is grounded in the outdoors and shaped by seasonality,” they say. That approach extends across the wider estate. An outdoor pool looks across the Umbrian hills, while an open-air spa includes a sauna, jacuzzi and a sensory barefoot path designed to encourage grounding through natural textures. A Technogym-equipped fitness room continues the same outlook, with that stunning landscape remaining in view.
Breakfast draws on Umbrian tradition, with homemade pastries including ciambellone, fresh bread, cheeses, cured meats, yoghurt, fruit and farm eggs, alongside seasonal jams and cooked classics. From May, The Bistrot will offer a simple menu of composed dishes and small plates through the day, paired with regional wines sourced from nearby producers. In summer, the Pool Bar will serve light snacks and drinks to guests enjoying a day in the sun.
The property also includes a newly acquired olive grove, which forming a natural extension of the estate, will host seasonal gatherings and the annual harvest, extending the hotel’s commitment to seasonal life and the slow rhythm of the Umbrian countryside.
