Housed in a 17th century mansion moments from Oaxaca’s main square, Hotel Sin Nombre is a contemporary retreat where history, art, and hospitality combine. Restored by RootStudio, the building retains its vaulted ceilings, centuries-old ironwork, and whitewashed walls; while subtle interventions — such as a glass dome that fills the courtyards with light — connect its past with a renewed sense of calm.
The hotel’s 18 rooms embrace warm minimalism, furnished with tropical woods, crisp textiles, and stone in matte finishes. Circulation routes have been carefully reconsidered, allowing silence to flow between terraces and communal spaces, creating an atmosphere that feels meditative. From its rooftop, views of the domes of Santo Domingo and the Cathedral give guests a peek into Oaxaca’s cultural heritage.

Art runs throughout the property with photography by Alberto ‘Negro’ Ibáñez occupying corridors and guest rooms, sculptures by Fulvio Capurso lining the terrace, and collaborations with figures such as Dr. Lakra bringing a creative energy. Elliott Coon’s Bibliotekita offers a pause beneath the staircase, while a curated programme of film screenings, concerts, and presentations enables the hotel to support neighbours and local craftsmen.
Food and drink play an essential role at Hotel Sin Nombre. Restaurant Sin Nombre, located on the rooftop, serves simple yet well-crafted dishes such as pizzas, burgers, and fresh snacks, contrasting Oaxaca’s rich gastronomic scene with unfussy comfort, while Cantinita, with its own character, offers cocktails and a relaxed atmosphere, remaining mindful of the pace that defines the house.
With a rooftop terrace shaded by bamboo and native plants, and a pool set against the city, Hotel Sin Nombre offers guests a perfect equilibrium. A seductive oasis within Oaxaca’s historic centre, this is a design- and culture-minded property that delivers an exceedingly authentic experience.
