On Camberwell’s Church Street, hello JoJo is a new all-day restaurant and bakery shaped by the spirit of the neighbourhood. Founded by locals Jo Lavender and Rob Newlan, it’s a vibrant space that celebrates South East London through its design, hospitality, and menu rooted in seasonal creativity.
Head chef Will Faris (The Ritz, Naughty Piglets) and head baker Jo Garner (Mountain, Toad, e5 Bakehouse) lead the kitchen with deli-style lunches, generous plates, and mouth-watering bakes. For weekday lunch expect grilled sardines on sourdough, or fresh curds with broad beans, before shifting into evening fare like smoked potato dumplings or a Tamworth pork chop with a buttery spring garlic sauce. Marmalade tart made with Todoli citrus and a cold-pressed rapeseed oil ice cream finish proceedings off nicely.
The bakery is stacked with sweet and savoury hits from bacon sandwiches to honey buns, or vegan vanilla buns, and a chocolate rye Swiss roll. Coffee is from South London roasters, brewed by head barista Florian Cross (ex-Grove Lane Deli), with mornings being a firm favourite. Drinks nod towards the natural and low-intervention, with wines by Mina Holland (ex-Guardian Feast), seasonal cocktails (think fennel brine martinis), and pints from local brewery Orbit.
Interiors strike a playful balance between retro charm and contemporary colour. Designed by Michelle Kelly with architecture by Stephen Harty, the space features work from local artists and Camberwell Art College students, adding character into every corner.
“hello JoJo is a true celebration of the place we call home,” say Lavender and Newlan. “We want it to be a space where everyone feels welcome and leaves with the glow of a good time.”
From breakfast through dinner, hello JoJo is a joyful and creative neighbourhood haunt that is destined to become a local favourite for many.
