Hotel Henrietta, New Orleans

Historic New Orleans luxury hotel, Columns, gets a big sister with debonair design in the shape of Hotel Henrietta...

With just 40 guest rooms, Hotel Henrietta is a new design-led five-storey boutique hotel in the heart of Uptown New Orleans. The first hotel built from the ground up on major thoroughfare St. Charles Avenue in 30 years — and an extension of the famous Columns hotel just two blocks away — guests can expect contemporary yet timeless interiors and sizeable rooms, many with kitchenettes and either a shared or private balcony.

Ideal for both short and long term stays, Hotel Henrietta offers guests ample spaces to hang out from the lobby lounge to a terrace adorned with two firepits. Partnering up with local bakery, Flour Moon Bagels, every day between 7am and 3pm, bagels, schmears, and bagel ‘tartines’ will be served fresh, as will third-wave coffee from Columns’ new Avenue Room Coffee brand.

Hotel Henrietta’s architecture includes stepped arched openings and oversized balconies with views of the St. Charles Avenue Streetcar Line. Guest rooms feature kitchenettes with dishwashers and Smeg refrigerators and microwaves, Parachute linens and Le Labo fragrances and bath amenities. Designed by local firm Farouki Farouki, the bedrooms are sophisticated with a colour palette inspired by the historic mosaic tiles at Columns, custom millwork, velvet headboards, and banquettes, as well as an eclectic mix of custom furniture and bathrooms with oversized showers.

Upon arrival, guests are invited into a reception area with a large marble island that serves as a check-in desk, café counter, and cocktail bar. Wall coverings by French designer Pierre Frey add texture to the space which opens up into a lobby with a wood ceiling, decorative millwork, and multiple seating areas with banquettes covered in custom fabric. Potted palm trees and handpicked vintage and commissioned art from local and global makers are layered throughout the space, while an adjacent colonnaded front porch and terrace offers outdoor seating and features two fire pits and St. Charles Avenue views.

An extension of Columns, a storied 20-room hotel originally built in 1883 by Thomas Sully as a private residence for Simon Hernsheim, Hotel Henrietta is named as a reference to Hernsheim’s sister, this new property a premier destination for both short-term and longer stays, giving guests the option to get out and enjoy the city, or after a long day, to prepare dinner in their room, invite friends over, kick back and chill.
