Set within a 19th century mansion on 200 acres of land, Birch Selsdon is a 181-bedroom ‘hotel,’ located 30 minutes from central London and offering guests a space to reconnect just outside of the city, amid rolling hills and fabulous design.
More than a hotel, the lavish Birch (Selsdon) is the sister property to Birch (Cheshunt), and also provides a membership programme enabling people from the local vicinity to access the estate for work, pleasure or both; savouring everything on offer from coworking to wellness.
The ultimate ‘home from home,’ the lavish old home has been remodelled by interior design and architecture studio A-nrd alongside Sella Concept, with bespoke furniture created by maker and environmentalist Sebastian Cox.
Guest rooms have been designed as personal havens, removing the pressures of everyday life. You’ll find no televisions or desks in the rooms, just fine design, art and ridiculously comfortable mattresses from Simba and Naturalmat. Cox has designed bedside tables using wood from the estate, art from British artists hang on the walls, lampshades are made from recycled glass, and fabrics made using recycled textiles.
Along with 181 bedrooms of all shapes and sizes, Birch (Selsdon) boasts a pottery studio, a screen- printing workshop and interactive kitchen to get creative in; a reading room, arcade, and screening room provide space to switch off. A lido (opening summer 2023), tennis courts, running and cycling tracks (outside), as well as wellness space with gym, studios and treatment rooms will keep guests and members sweating and stretching, while two restaurants and three bars are set to keep them refreshed.
Looking to escape the concrete jungle and walk among nature, yet not prepared to tear yourself too far away, Birch (Selsdon) is set to become London’s ultimate sanctuary throughout 2023. Close to the heart of the city, but so far away in terms of mindset, it’s the perfect getaway for devout urbanites.
