Along Different Lines

Abstract artist Remi Rough's distinctive style evolved from train writing...

Abstract artist Remi Rough is kicking off a new era for Soze Gallery in Los Angeles; the Londoner’s latest collection Further Adventures in Abstraction has been chosen as the inaugural exhibition at the gallery’s new premises in West Hollywood. The gallery has represented Remi Rough from the beginning, and the artist has done his partner proud with more than 50 new works on paper, wood, and canvas.

Remi Rough cut his teeth on the South London graffiti scene in the mid-1980s, beginning on walls and trains before becoming influential in the abstract and post-graffiti worlds. A member of the collective Agents of Change, he’s been involved in large-scale outdoor projects in the UK (the five-storey Megaro Hotel mural for example), but for this gallery show he has reverted to studio mode, utilising his distinctive style of angular lines, shapes and folds given added depth by a vivid colour palette and some clever geometry. The exhibition runs until 19 August.
