Flexibility is the key to Coletiva, a collection of furniture from Brazilian creative Maurício Arruda which puts the user in control. Three main units comprise Coletiva: a chair/workstation, a bench/coffee table and a screen/clothes hanger. Exactly what they end up being used for is down to the needs and imagination of the customer, but almost anything is possible thanks to the clever system of a basic frame and accessories that can be added or removed as necessary.
The collection has taken a different approach to furniture design; rather than provide a fixed solution to a given functional requirement, Coletiva is instead a toolkit that can be adapted to any eventuality. Key to this system are the removable accessories that have been made from a variety of Brazilian materials – wood, wicker and leather bands, plus nylon, glass and metal tubing – so if your chair needs an extra surface to put the TV remote on, just pop one on yourself.
