The Talbot Inn

A resting place with appeal both past and present...

The interior designer of The Talbot Inn is probably going to be a bit cross with us considering their work on the public and private rooms of this B&B are extremely nicely done, but the real star of the show here was the work of someone else in the 15th Century. This traditional inn in Mells, near Bath, is as fantastically textbook an example as you could imagine, the grey stone building is complete with a central archway wide enough to allow entry to a coach-and-four through to the courtyard beyond.

When you do get inside, however, a quintessential British pub awaits, and beyond the public recreation rooms lies some terrific accommodation which more than does justice to the architectural framework. Classic furniture blends with more contemporary examples, the baths are grand, the beds four-poster without the unnecessary drapes that would spoil the clean-lined aesthetic. Well worth a visit on every level.
