Cantina Sanabria, located in the Devoto neighbourhood of Buenos Aires, is conceived as a contemporary interpretation of the classic Argentine cantina. Built around the rituals of everyday dining, it brings together food, gathering and familiarity in a setting that feels rooted in its surroundings.
The project draws from the long-standing culture of neighbourhood eateries in the city where meals are shared and taken time over, and hospitality is as important as the food and design; the restaurant telling us: “Cantina Sanabria serves home-style flavours, generous portions, and classic Buenos Aires cuisine in familial surroundings to enjoy with friends or a partner. Born after the success of Parrilla Sanabria, our concept combines the best of a traditional Argentine eatery with the same warmth and hospitality.”
Designed by the locally based Muro Studio, the open layout was planned so the room could shift between quieter daytime service and busier evenings. Seating is arranged to support different modes of dining, from shared tables to more enclosed corners, while materials include timber, black metal and amber glass. Light is kept low and warm, shifting across the surfaces as the day moves through the space, giving the room a steady pace. Behind textured glazing, the kitchen remains visible, but the dining room always retains its own focus.
A neighbourhood staple, Cantina Sanabria settles into Devoto with the ease of a place that has always been.
