At the intersection of Staszica and Szamarzewskiego streets in Poznań’s Jeżyce district, Atelier Gusta emerges as a space where jewellery, art, and architecture coalesce in serious style. A collaboration between GUSTA Jewellery, artist Von Motz, and architecture studio mode:lina™, the project saw a long-abandoned grocery store transformed into something far more intimate and profound.
Working within the constraints of a small footprint and a decaying site, mode:lina™ focused the redesign around the original three-metre-high semicircular display windows, which now define the aesthetic and mood. Simple plaster walls and epoxy flooring with green and white flecks set a restrained backdrop for a space that shifts effortlessly between workshop and gallery. Behind concealed doors, a kitchenette, bathroom, and storage mezzanine remain invisible to the customer; allowing the front to fully embody the brand’s ethos.
Founded by Agnieszka Jankowiak, GUSTA is rooted in old-world goldsmithing, natural materials, and sculptural minimalism. Her handcrafted pieces are crafted in silver, gold, and pearls, and sit alongside curated work by other Polish designers: amber-polished forms from Emilia Kohut, geometric lines by Magdalena Paszkiewicz, and Mokave’s symbolic signs.
The atelier’s centrepiece is Portal No. 01, a monumental installation by Von Motz made from six stone steps salvaged from Poznań’s historic Saint Roch Bridge. Etched with alchemical symbols and backed by a vast semicircular mirror, the work acts as both sculpture and display, inviting reflection on transformation, process, and spiritual craftsmanship. The portal anchors the space with mythic gravitas, echoing the artist’s accompanying exhibition, Glow and Spark: The Chemical Wedding, a multi-disciplinary exploration of alchemy and purity.
A place where meaning is forged as intentionally as gold, Atelier Gusta is a high-concept, high-style destination for devotees of design and fashion.
