Reimagined by Barcelona-based studio El Equipo Creativo, Kimpton Los Monteros Hotel brings a vibrant new energy to Marbella, where 1970s nostalgia meets Mediterranean soul in a boldly artistic transformation of a coastal icon.
Rooted in Andalusian heritage, the redesign draws on the greens of the local landscape, the blues of sea and sky, and the warmth of Marbella’s golden light. From the lobby to the rooftop, El Equipo Creativo has translated these elements into a rich visual language shaped by colour, curves, ceramics, and vegetation, with a dose of retro glamour that honours the building’s original era.
The lobby opens with whitewashed walls, sculptural wood accents, and colourful 1970s-infused furniture, while hand-painted murals inspired by Picasso — who was born just up the coast in Málaga —create a lived-in, art-lover’s atmosphere. The library and lounge continue the narrative, with bold carpets, vintage lighting, and handcrafted objects cultivating an eclectic, homely warmth.
At the heart of the hotel, the Andalusian patio has been enhanced with a Mediterranean palette and sculptural water feature. Azul Bar, a Marbella staple since 1962, finds new form through custom 3D ceramic elements and a moody, monochromatic palette. Blues dominate here, with Picasso-inspired feminine murals adding drama; the result is a relaxed yet sophisticated space that moves effortlessly from aperitivo hour to after-dark energy.
Outside, the pool area embraces the contours of the natural terrain. Terraced platforms and vintage loungers surround a refreshing turquoise pool, creating a playful, elevated retreat. Costa Club Pool Bar, with terracotta tiles, timber pergola, and latticework details, casts a warm glow reminiscent of old-school Mediterranean holidays.
On the rooftop, Escondido delivers Marbella’s most stylish sky-high scene. Layered platforms create intimate seating zones, where bold tilework and geometric patterns meet sunset views and a glam ‘70s palette. By day it’s casual and breezy, by night, a sultry escape for cocktails.
