AINEN, located within the Tersane İstanbul shopping centre, is a burger joint that’s as smart as it is delicious. Designed by URBANJOBS, whose previous projects Esca in Izmir and Scalla in Istanbul have been featured on these fair pages, the interiors turn spatial constraints into opportunity, creating a venue that adapts effortlessly.
The layout is deceptively simple. Kitchens and bars run along the sides keeping operational flow efficient. A central island forms the room’s focal point both visually and functionally, serving diners by day and transforming into a DJ booth by night, and movable furniture allows the interior to shift between lunch crowds, evening dinners, and weekend parties, letting the space evolve naturally and with ease.
The ceiling is the standout feature. A three-dimensional intervention drawing the eye upward. Lighting layers work in harmony with the geometry above, adjusting to match the space’s intensity, while dark-stained Giancarlo Piretti chairs for Cassina sit alongside contemporary interventions. Materials and furniture age gracefully, blending history with present and reinforcing a sense of place.
Beyond the architecture, AINEN delivers. Burgers are indulgent, deliciously greasy, and owe much to the iconic burger joints of the United States. Once again shown their knack for turning limitations into design opportunities, URBANJOBS have crafted a venue that’s unapologetically hip and far beyond the cookie-cutter sameness of your typical high-end fast food spot.
