A refined new chapter for a Toronto favourite blends cinematic design and Italian nostalgia with their signature New York–style pies...

Toronto’s beloved North of Brooklyn continues its steady expansion with the opening of its eighth location, this time setting up shop in the city’s Etobicoke neighbourhood. Spanning two floors, the new outpost brings together the quick-fire charm of the brand’s takeout operations with an elevated dining and bar experience that gives a nod to both cinema and classic Italian design. Long-term collaborator MRDK were once again in charge of the interior design.

Visitors enter beneath a glowing lightbox awning emblazoned with the North of Brooklyn logo, and once inside, the ground floor takeout area is wrapped entirely in custom DTILE moulded tiles; a continuous white mosaic that unfolds across walls and ceiling. The tiles themselves even shape outward to form hooks for merchandise, a clever visual trick that blurs the boundary between décor and display.

Head upstairs, and the mood shifts. The Low Rise bar and dining room reinterpret vintage Italian style for a modern Toronto audience. A grand, 40 seat room centres around a marble mosaic bar topped with a zinc counter, while a sculptural fluted pendant by In Common With, casts a warm glow across the space, setting an intimate tone for diners.

To draw in daylight, new windows have been cut along the side façade, framing walnut tables that appear to float from the walls. Green leather banquettes, inspired by Joe Colombo’s iconic Tube Chair, complete the setting with a restrained dash of retro futurism. Overhead, a raised central ceiling and subtle cove lighting add unexpected height and texture, the popcorn finish contrasting against glossy paintwork to give the space depth and character.

Design aside, it’s the pizza that keeps Toronto coming back. Serving their renowned 14″ and 18″ New York-style pies, North of Brooklyn continues to deliver the authentic flavours and community feel that made them a city favourite. A refined yet familiar addition to Etobicoke’s dining scene, this new chapter proves that North of Brooklyn’s star continues to rise, one delicious slice at a time.
