Extending over the edge of Halifax Harbour, Mystic brings a refined new energy to Canada’s East Coast dining scene, offering a modern maritime experience that blurs the lines between land, sea, and sky. Set within the signature building of Queen’s Marque — the transformative waterfront district developed by Armour Group — this 75-seat restaurant is a striking symbol of the Nova Scotia capital’s growing cultural confidence.
Inside, DesignAgency have conceived a space that honours both the raw beauty of the Atlantic and the revered ambition of fine dining. Panoramic glass walls wrap the dining room, immersing guests in the changing light and movement of the harbour. A calm, coastal palette of harbour blue, pine green, and weathered stone unfolds across curved banquettes, soft upholstery, and sculptural furnishings; grounding the interiors in the natural tones of Nova Scotia’s landscape.
At the centre of the space is a bold, open kitchen. From the moment guests step through a steel-panelled vestibule, glimpses of the culinary action set the tone. The layout strips away traditional boundaries, turning the pantry bar and kitchen into focal points of interaction. Whether dining at counter seating taking in the kitchen action, or soaking in the views of the space, guests are made to feel very much a part of the Mystic experience.
Above, a sweeping plaster ceiling is shaped to evoke the underside of a boat’s hull, its curves lit by long linear sconces and concealed cove lighting that casts a soft glow throughout the room. Rounded forms and fluid lines soften the geometry of the space, reinforcing a sense of ease and natural flow.
Developed by Armour Group and designed by MacKay-Lyons Sweetapple, Queen’s Marque sets an alluring architectural tone for Halifax’s revitalised waterfront, with Matt Davis of DesignAgency commenting: “Queen’s Marque epitomises a new confidence emerging in Eastern Canada, and Mystic is the jewel in its crown.”
