Overlooking the scenic Punta Lobos and Sierra de la Laguna Mountains, Hotel San Cristóbal Baja is the first international hotel from Bunkhouse. Founded by Liz Lambert, the brand manages the likes of Austin Motel; Hotel San Jose; and El Cosmico among others.
The handsome 32-room beachfront hotel located is in Todos Santos, Mexico, and has been designed by Texan architecture firm Lake Flato in collaboration with Bunkhouse. Fully immersed in its surrounding landscape, Hotel San Cristóbal Baja offers a sense of community through cultural experiences, its communal spaces and activities run by local people.
Rooms feature bespoke furniture by Guadalajara artisans, one-of-a-kind ceramics (including bedside pendants and wall sconces), stamped concrete floors and Malin + Goetz amenities. Coco-Mat Mattresses made of coconut fibre, goose down, seaweed, horsehair, cactus and natural rubber mean that you’ll sleep like a baby — 300-thread count Sferra linens will make you want to stayed cocooned there all day.
There are stellar oceanic views from the hotel’s 2,200 sq ft swimming pool and two hot tubs; whist food and beverage is provided courtesy of Benno’s (a causal Mexican eatery with an emphasis on seafood) and the Pool Bar, which serves up a continental-style breakfast, ceviches, salads and sandwiches. Following the Bunkhouse ethos of creating community-driven experiences, Hotel San Cristóbal Baja offers a curated programme of local-led wellness activities; those wanting to take further steps can be connected to volunteerism opportunities, helping the community by fostering homeless dogs, and donating much need supplies to local charities.
Looks good. Does good. Lambert’s Midas touch continues on the bracing coast of Mexico’s Baja California Peninsula.
