It's time to get your weekends off to a flyer as Italian trattoria opens for brunch...

Bored with bacon and eggs? Had your fill of fry-ups? It sounds like time to broaden those brunch horizons a little and add a little Italian flair into your mundane mid-morning menu. Beccafico Bar & Trattoria on Danks Street could be just the ticket if you’ve got the weekend brunch munchies in the Waterloo neighbourhood , as it’s just added a new 10am to 3pm menu to compliment its existing dinner service.

When merging two meals into one the dishes must be hearty and indulgent, and Beccafico’s breakfast and lunch combos hit the spot on both counts. Chef Diego Arata’s weekend treats are imbued with the flavours of his mamma’s cooking, which is in turn steeped in the traditions of the Puglia region of Italy. Have a go at the potato pancakes with smoked leg ham, horseradish and poached eggs, or the meatball, parmesan and rocket panini.

Matt Woods‘ design is centred around natural light, with full length folding glass doors opening onto the terrace and a charming little courtyard. Wine is also an important part of the Beccafico experience, and there’s a selection of artfully-lit bottles lining the dark wood shelving display along the indoor dining area.
