This might be a bold statement, but I reckon brass is one of the most attractive metal alloys. There, I’ve said it. But the biggest problem with brass is all the polishing that’s necessary to keep it looking tip top. If only there was a way to halve the amount of elbow grease involved…
Step forward Daniel Schofield and his Tarnish range of solid brass functional objects, launching at Design Event at Design Junction from 18 to 21 September. To be honest, the reduced polishing is only a side benefit to the range; the Tarnish objects are produced with a half lacquered finish, meaning that over time the untreated half will acquire a narrative patina from contact with the natural oils on the skin – the more they are used, the more interesting the surface will become. A progressive design element that the designer hopes will bring create a narrative in his pieces. A vase, a pot and a tray comprise the range, with prices from £60 to £180. Ordering information is available from Daniel Schofield Studio.
