Set across some 11 acres in California‘s Mountain View, the Ameswell Hotel combines modern luxury with nature; the resort-like property featuring an extensive art gallery, multiple destination bar and restaurants, and 255 guest rooms and suites surrounded by over 26 varieties of indigenous trees, plants and flowers.
Located in one of the principal cities of Silicon Valley, the hotel is inspired by the tech-led region’s legacy of unconventional thinking, its designers BAMO drawing inspiration from nearby NASA Ames Research Center, building the hotel from the ground up in collaboration with RYS Architects to create a holistic place that supports both work and play; keeping guests as connected or unplugged as they choose throughout the guest rooms, common spaces, and ample grounds.
Rooms have been designed with comfort in mind and feature floor-to-ceiling windows, statement graphic wall-coverings, and integrated technology and custom touches to remind you where you are. From a medical-grade air filtration system to advanced water filtration and exceptional sound quality, these are as high-tech a hotel room as one could conceive. Naturally. Aesthetics-wise, a colour palette of handcrafted blue fireclay tiles in the bathrooms and California poppy orange complement rich California Black Walnut finishes to elevate a vibe that is cutting-edge, West Coast casual.
The quasi-industrial public spaces feature a polished concrete floor and purposefully unfinished ceilings layered with ceiling clouds of rough and raw reclaimed wood from Mexico, that are hung at different heights throughout the lobby level to evoke a sense of movement in the long space. Meanwhile, a 1,600 square foot state-of-the-art fitness centre is part of the hotel’s commitment to wellness, their dedicated Wellness Wing also equipped with private spa treatment rooms, a heated salt water swimming pool, and lawn with fire pits and games; along with direct access to hiking trails.
Dispersed on the grounds are the hotel’s three restaurants: Roger, serving seasonal California cuisine married with Mediterranean flavours; Flyby, a quick and casual all day lobby café; and the Airstream Bar, a retrofitted vintage trailer serving up casual Cali-inspired cuisine intended to be enjoyed outdoors by the pool, lawn, or firepit.
Just like the folk expected stay with them, the Ameswell is a stand-out hotel, a place for trailblazers and forward-thinkers. One expects the WiFi to have decent coverage, the coffee’s to help with long hours, and the wellness commitment to have mindfulness at the fore. As far as a design hotel in Silicon Valley goes, Mountain View’s Ameswell Hotel ticks all appropriate boxes in deft style.
