The Four Sisters Townhouse, London

Victorian curios adorn a new bar-restaurant set in Charles Dickens's London, thankfully the gruel has gone...

A revolving cocktail list that make use of seasonal ingredients (in what’s called a ‘market-to-glass’ concept), brews from the brilliant Camden Town Brewery, and a selection of wines and champagnes — all served up amid an air of mystery; welcome to The Four Sisters Townhouse.

The Four Sisters Townhouse, London, The City

Located on one of the cobbled streets that featured in much of Charles Dickens’s work, sat behind St. Paul’s Cathedral, stepping inside The Four Sisters evokes the true essence of ‘Old London Town’: Victorian floor tiles, gargoyle heads, bold wallpaper, and antique lights lie in wait behind a mysterious doorway.

Inventive cocktails are mixed behind a green marble bar, and sipped in plush seating areas among eclectic curios — framed beetles and a stuffed raven some of the many Dickens-era oddities on display — whilst behind it, shelves burst with a hiccup-inducing array of obscure spirits; including The Four Sisters’s very own Amaro (an Italian herbal liqueur).

Hunger can be dealt a swift blow whatever time of day you visit, artisan sandwiches and grazing boards suiting the lunchtime hoard, more substantial treats like 28-day-aged rump steak and slow-roasted Suffolk pork belly will appease those who’ve been stuck on gruel and water.
