Mello Diorama, Sickboy

Street artist continues to stand out from the gallery crowd...

There’s nothing like a gallery exhibition to prove a street artist has made it in their field – one can’t move for urban spray-painters making the move indoors, and with the weather the way it is, who can blame them? While most of them are happy to recreate or riff on previous work in the gallery setting, we like to see someone who’s prepared to stretch themselves, and their work, way beyond the 2D.

Why not? No-one is going to chisel away your creations and flog them on the internet, no-on will paint over them, no one will drive into them, or piss on them on the way home from the kebab shop. Taking full advantage of the freedom that the confines of a gallery bestows is Sickboy, and his new collection Mello Diorama. Along with some street pieces and sketch collections, the Bristolian has gone all out in every direction with his Still Asleep sculpture. You can find it reclining leisurely at the Shooting Gallery‘s Project Space in San Francisco until 2nd March.
