Café Foam

Brief to create Marmite design fails by being distinctly un-hateable...

Given a brief to design something “that people either love or hate, and that nobody is indifferent to” – as Stockholm’s Note Design Studio were by Café Foam owner Michael Toutoungi – I may personally have delivered something a bit more obstinately Marmite, perhaps done something with pig’s blood and naked dwarves. But then perhaps that’s why I’m not an interior designer (although I am free for commissions from brave, deep pocketed individuals).

Of course you can’t really imagine anyone being indifferent to Note’s bold use of colours, through dramatic sweeping geometric divisions, you’d certainly imagine many loving its distinctive Scandi-cool and the smart use of bespoke hand-blown glass pendants – but hate it? How could you?
