Montreal-based barbershop Maniac have opened up a second outpost, blending the rituals of grooming with the ritual of coffee. An evolution of the classic barbershop — reimagined with a café at its core — the project is rooted in community, creativity, and cultural promotion; positioning itself as a gathering space for locals and a showcase for emerging talent.
Situated opposite Parc La Fontaine in the Plateau Mont-Royal district, the location alone gives Maniac a powerful presence. Flooded with natural light and organised across varying heights, the space was designed to make the most of its architectural quirks. Coffee lovers arriving from the street are greeted by a café area where a lower ceiling, softened lighting, and the energy of baristas in motion create an intimate corner to sip. Tables overlooking the remainder of the venue provide a vantage point that connects the buzz of the café to the cuts happening below.

A short flight of stairs on either side of the central counters takes guests down to the barbershop. Here, five chairs line a space capped by a stretched light fabric ceiling inspired by photographic studios, framing the room with a glow that highlights the work of the barbers. A wall of windows allows passers-by to get a glimpse of what’s taking place inside, encouraging them to step inside and check out the space.
Designed by By LEMOIGNAN, the interiors balance raw masculinity with refined details. Dark wood forms the backbone, layered with textures that play against brushed and polished aluminium at the stations. Brown leather chairs set the tone for the interior’s refined aesthetic, while glossy green marble at the central counter and deep green matte tiles underfoot lend the café its distinctive identity. Lighting is a highlight with vintage wall sconces reminiscent of classic car headlamps, and chrome-and-yellow table lamps, bringing an element of nostalgia to the contemporary aesthetic.
With this second outpost being one that feels equal parts grooming parlour, coffee shop, and cultural hub, Maniac’s latest chapter is a statement of intent for their future and a thoughtful demonstration of how one needn’t stay in their lane.
