Having finally knocked the USA off the top spot, China lead the way in the World Design Rankings, a system that provides data to economists and journalists in the art, architecture and design industry.
As part of the A’ Design Award & Competition, the World Design Rankings (WDR) provide a snapshot of a country’s standing in the coveted competition based on the amount of winning designs in any niche or category; the number and accolade calculated into an overall score. For the current 2019—2020 edition, designers from 106 countries have submitted works that will be put before an esteemed panel of judges from experienced academics, prominent press members and established professionals; an increase of seven on last year where sub-100 categories were represented.
On the heels of China are the United States of America, followed by Japan, Italy, and our very own (Great?) Britain. This year’s new additions are Macedonia, Maldives, Lao, Swaziland, Kenya and Armenia, and we’re looking forward to following their progress as more and more designers become a part of the world’s largest and most influential design competition.
