Poppy’s Place, Fulham

The marvellously youthful Poppy's Place has a charm that lasts all day...

Poppy’s Place in Fulham is a breakfast to dinner eatery whose style and atmosphere alters as the hour advances. Stop by in the morning and get stuck into the British classics. How about a good old sausage sarnie with, naturally, a gourmet twist, or boiled eggs and soldiers? Your troops are guaranteed to be just how you like them, too; slices of sourdough are toasted by customers at their table. Those dinky egg cosies are an example of the infectious, childlike spirit of Poppy’s – note the supply of colouring pencils in case any of the younger guests get bored. Lunch takes things up a notch, and by the evening Poppy’s is an intimate and elegant candlelit restaurant with a menu to match.

Nicola HardingInterior Design is the creative brain behind this chameleon-like venue. Light floods in during the day, bouncing around off white wooden panelling and floorboards and helped out by the carnival sign behind the counter. Chapel chairs are the highlight of a great selection of vintage furniture that gives off an informal vibe in the daytime. A quick change of tableware as the sun goes down and Poppy’s is transformed into somewhere much more grown-up.
