New lease of life for mangled motors...

When your old car has been driven into the ground, into the back of the car in front, or off a cliff – the usual sad path for it is the scrapyard, to be dismantled for parts of crushed into a cube for recycling. Quite environmentally friendly but usually not much to look at.

This group of artists, Transfodesign, are doing something much more interesting with mangled motors. As part of the BCN Design Week in Barcelona this month, Trashcars challenged designers to come up with new and visually interesting ways to reform knackered cars and give them a new lease of life as a work of art.

The participants made their designs in advance, then had two days on site to turn their ideas into reality, all the while being watched by over 150 curious members of the public keen to see the creations taking shape. Some of the finished articles included a garden, a fridge, and a robot DJ booth by Starter from Sabadell who hub-capped the event with a party performance on the closing night.
