Modern Cambridge Map

Cambridge is the unlikely home to a host of 20th century architectural styles, as compiled in Blue Crow's Modern Cambridge Map...

London-based writer, journalist and editor Harriet Thorpe has written the introduction for Blue Crow Media’s latest city guide, Modern Cambridge Map, which presents over 40 buildings varying in style from Art Deco, to Brutalist, Post-Modern to High Tech; each documented with authoritative details and original photography by Nigel Green.

Highlights of 20th century architectural styles such as Giles Gilbert Scott’s Cambridge University Library; Denys Lasdun’s layered ‘Typewriter’; John Outram’s colourful Judge Institute; James Stirling’s lantern-like Seeley Library; and Chamberlin Bon and Powell’s classical/space-age Murray Edwards College, show why people flock to this renowned university town, although those who explore a little deeper will find other gems well worth a look.

Harvey Court designed by Leslie Martin and Colin St John Wilson for Gonville and Caius College or the extension to the School of Architecture, by St John Wilson, show influence of international Modernists such as Alvar Aalto and Le Corbusier, whilst the Faculty of Law and the Imperial War Museum American Air Museum (located just outside the city) celebrate the work of UK starchitect Norman Foster.

Available online and at independent bookstores worldwide, Modern Cambridge Map, published by Blue Crow Media, is two-sided map and guide priced from £9.50.
