OBJECT lesson: crisply-curated design store schools Manchester's cool kids on little-known brands...

A new multi-concept store has opened its doors in Manchester’s stylish Chorlton neighbourhood, stocking menswear, womenswear, interiors, and independent publications in a handsomely put together space.

OBJECT, Chorlton, Manchester

With a well-curated range of products hand-picked by husband and wife team Alex and Rachael Otterwell, OBJECT is a debut physical store for the online retailers, and sees them focussing their attentions on season-less and transitional clothing, alongside homewares sourced mostly from Denmark.

OBJECT Woman will present a farm-to-fashion organic linen range — grown, designed and manufactured on a family-run farm based in Lithuania — along with accessories from makers in Warsaw, Ohio, and Tel Aviv, whilst OBJECT Man will be launching its own shirt label, Otterwell (an exclusive to this very store); Portland knitwear brand Derhan will be introduced to the UK for the first time, and the Chorlton retailer will be the first in Manchester to stock elusive footwear brand, The Wild Bunch.

Opting to work with smaller, independent brands, the Otterwell’s told us: ‘we purposely avoid large trade shows, preferring to seek out the brands we want to work with independently. Where possible we try to travel to see each designers collection in person, and only choose pieces we would wear ourselves or have in our home.’

OBJECT is now open at 519 Barlow Moor Road.
