In his 15 years as a feted gig poster and band art specialist, Chuck Sperry has produced memorable promo imagery for the likes of Beastie Boys, Aerosmith and Eric Clapton, as well as festivals the length and breadth of the USA. His psychedelic Art Nouveau style though is recognisably West Coast, and it’s in San Francisco that Sperry bases himself. It’s also the location for a major exhibition of new and archive work, happening across two venues – Spoke Art and Hashimoto Contemporary.

At Spoke Art, visitors can enjoy some of Sperry’s best known work recreated on oak panels, He is also using the show to debut a new collection entitled Muses – a collection of erotic nudes based on the ancient Greek legends of goddesses and nymphs who provided the inspiration for all music and art. Muses views like a beguiling mix of William Morris wallpaper, Pop Art and Playboy, but however you break it down, the work is undeniably brilliant. Just down the street at Hashimoto Contemporary, there’s a chance to see a Sperry retrospective, including ultra-rare artwork drawn from the artist’s own archive material. Prints are available to buy, although they don’t hang around long – get down to the show before it closes on 20 December.
