Society Café

odd couple are a perfect match...

Elegant lady meets young bit of rough may go some way to describing Society Café‘s aesthetic, brought to life by Simple Simon Design‘s Ben Rolls. A bit Lady Chatterley’s Lover, with a lot of coffee.

This lady is of a certain age, though, with reclaimed and salvaged fittings here and there, panelled walls serving as a display surface to a selection of artworks, and Chesterfield-style upholstery to the bench seating. Antique marine pendants hang from the walls like a bequeathed necklace. Contrast that with the more contemporary elements. There’s floorboards on the walls, left looking worn around the edges, unvarnished tabletops, and that stuff formerly known as chipboard before it became fashionable. Bits of scaffolding hold up the breakfast bar.

Many of the prints on display are the work of café owner and amateur photographer Adrian Campbell Howard, who, along with wife Jane, come to the café scene following a successful stint in the Cotswold hotel business. It’s also Adrian’s bike on the wall, so he’s certainly put his own stamp on the place!
