Główna Osobowa, Gdynia

All aboard the nostalgia train at bar and kitchen inspired by Gdynia's grand old station...

Główna Osobowa is the name of Gdynia’s grand old railway station, and the latter word translates to “personal” – a good fit for the kind of relaxed, welcoming vibe fostered by a new bar and kitchen going by the same title. A joint design project between Filip Kozarski and PB/STUDIO, Główna Osobowa is peppered with elements referencing the historical station, such as the magnetic menu signs which resembling an old pre-digital timetable, and the matching direction signs on the wall.

The same neat typography announces the restaurant’s name on the exterior façade and awning, and the brand identity continues with steel lettered table reservation tickets and typewritten menus.

A non-stop flow of foot traffic is another thing the restaurant has in common with its namesake. Główna Osobowa is geared for an early start and a late finish, and the use of rugged materials — concrete, oak, and thick woven textiles — means the venue is more than capable of taking the strain. Decorative touches include the three-dimensional cubic pattern around the central counter, which carries a flattened version of the same geometry, and some stylish mid-century furniture designs. Vintage mechanisms for adjusting the table heights are both attractive and a boon for those at either end of the height spectrum. A relaxed patio area to the rear provides an extra dimension for evening festivities.
