Back with a FUD

Barry McGee and Todd James reunite for latest joint show in Copenhagen...

East meets West at V1 Contemporary Art Centre in Copenhagen this month as New York-based artist Todd James and San Francisco colleague Barry McGee join forces for a collaborative installation show going by the name of FUD. The pair, who both started out in graffiti when it was still underground and naughty, previously exhibited together at the gallery with 2010’s Brush Strokes, and have worked on several projects together over the past 15 years.

FUD sees James (formerly known as REAS) and McGee (who has all sorts of aliases including Ray Fong) explore the territory of the outsider — a common theme in both their individual practices. People and places on the periphery of consumerist culture, or simply outside “the normal”, are given a central role and even championed by the two artists, whose joint styles have been described as “empathetic”. Paintings on canvas and wood, sculpture and drawing all feature in FUD, which runs until 27 June.
