Super Loco, Robertson’s Quay

A corner of Singapore is going Super Loco for the fast food of rustic old Mexico diners...

Mexican tacos, enchiladas and ceviches are going down a storm on the other side of the world as Singapore diners go wild for the traditional street food dishes at the Super Loco restaurant and bar on Robertson’s Quay. The boys behind Lucha Loco in Duxton Hill have opened this follow-up venue as an all-day joint, catering for families during the day and a crazier crowd come sundown.

Siew Hui Lim of Hui Designs has returned to assume design duties for the sequel to her successful original, with a clear brief that called for colour and vibrancy. Although the waterfront restaurant comes at the traditional Mexican menu items from fresh angles – Jason Jones of Mamasita in Melbourne has been involved in developing the dishes – there hasn’t been an attempt to tart things up too much here; Hui delivered an interior that conveyed a convivial fiesta atmosphere over anything unnecessarily swanky. Festival lighting and fly-posters were created to aid the street fiesta atmosphere, with a long central cocktail bar the focal point. Super Loco Singapore also sports a taqueria-style takeaway window facing out onto the riverside walkway if you can’t stop to party.
