On Tour

Emily Maye treats us to a behind-the-scenes glimpse of pro cycling...

Now that the Tour de France has pedalled off back to its native land after a tremendous start in England, it’s possible that withdrawal symptoms may be kicking in for some of you. Even after being treated to six hours of live Tour coverage every day on ITV4, there is always room for a bit more cycling action, and Beach London has got just the thing with an exhibition by Tour photographer Emily Maye.

Maye has one of the best possible vantage points for capturing the thrills and spills of pro cycling in her role as official photographer for Trek Factory Racing, and she also does commercial work with Rapha and Team Sky. Not really one to focus on the finishing line, Maye is more interested in the behind-the-scenes happenings, the gritty reality of life in the saddle, and the racing as seen from a spectator’s point of view. We Were Fought By Men Very Fast is a collection of images taken from this year’s Classics – one day races through Belgium and France – which are extremely popular on the continent although lesser known on this side of the Channel. Ends 3 August.
