GB Pizza Co, Exmouth Market

Margate success story opens second pizzeria for the London crowd...

Ah, the British seaside. The sporadic sunshine, the tang of salt in the air, buckets and spades, melting ice-creams, and pizza. No, hang on, pizza? Well if you’re in Margate, Kent, then heck yes. GB Pizza Co has been gaining rave reviews in the national press for the quality of its delicious discs of dough coming out of the oven in its seafront Margate restaurant, so owners Lisa Richards and Rachel Seed have decided to share their taste sensations with a London audience.

A second outlet is now up and running in Exmouth Market, sticking with a successful recipe of hand-picked and home-grown ingredients; mozzarella comes from Hampshire buffaloes, and charcuterie from Cannon&Cannon, for example. With an interior tailored for the city clientèle, lively neon lighting and shocking pink accents jump out from a blue-grey base. The pizazz of the decoration is tempered with retro fabric-seated chairs and rustic pale wood tables and bench seats – the pizza, cooked in a wood-burning oven, also comes on attractive wooden paddles.
