Sleeping on the Job

The Fold Inn offers an innovative solution for busy execs...

A few days ago the results of a survey were revealed suggesting that one in five UK workers has fallen asleep at work. I’d wager that’s markedly lower than the We Heart average, and who can blame today’s overcooked workers for snatching a quick catnap in a rare lull? The trouble is, there are not enough toilet cubicles to go around…

Here’s a solution from Dutch trio Lieke Jildou de Jong and Alei Verspoor in collaboration with Aliki van der Kruijs. While the Fold Inn might not catch on like the Filofax did, it’s an innovative piece of design for businesspeople who don’t have the time or inclination to travel from their meeting place to their hotel, or back to the airport for a few hours to wait for the first flight of the morning. Not just a collapsible bed, Fold Inn is a complete room, which stows away fairly unobtrusively in the corner of a conference room until Any Other Business has been concluded and the last of the biscuits scoffed, then wheeled out on its castors and reconfigured in minutes. A dangerously good idea.
