Collaborative show revels in its rebelliousness...

A Day Away from Kristofferson San Pablo and Vacancy Projects is a collaborative exhibition featuring the Californian San Pablo, Mary Vu and a host of other contributors, and comes with a wonderfully erudite explanation of the works tracing influences back into art history, taking in names such as Ruby Sterling and Keith Haring. Then you see a penile Homer Simpson and wonder if someone somewhere isn’t taking the piss.

But no, the collection is paying homage to art world renegades and rebelliousness, and the accessibility of pop culture characters. And even if you’re not picking up what the collective is putting down in terms of mission statement, who doesn’t like seeing Homer Simpson dicks? There’s a real East Coast meets West Coast spirit on show here, which is referenced in the title – folks from New York and Los Angeles are one day away from each other if they meet in the middle (somewhere in Kansas). The show is up and running from 8 November – L.A. hosts Slow Culture Gallery have more details on the contributors.
